Finally spoted a few scapes. I generally would have been a couple of weeks into hybridizing by now. What a late season.
I pulled empty pots in new seedlings area and realized losses were not so bad after all. Only 22 out of the fiest block of 400 I worked through. Still I genearally only lose a couple after they reach size in seedling trays that I pot them up. Other blocks look about the same.

No scapes at all. I generally would have had limited blooms for several weeks by now. I see they changes date for local annual daylily show by two weeks. I wonder if national AHS convention short ways north of here will have good blooms during garden visits.
I was looking over seedlings started over the winter, wow I have lost a lot of them. Not sure why, never had such huge losses in the past. Still have thousands that should bloom for first time this spring.

It put up several scapes already and even though nice just didn't have teeth I was shooting for and was destined to be culled. Had a scape up after I had started dumping unselected daylilies from section it was in so I decided to set it aside an give it one aditional chance to get my attention. I did. So now it is carried over to see what it will do once its a more mature plant.

Breeding for edges...teeth & tendrils

This first photo is the one with garden name toothy. It is a parent in many of my toothy edged seedlings and likely will be my first registered daylily. Many pictures are the only one I have taken of a plant, I could wait for the day I get round to taking a better shot, but these will do for now. My current camera, Nikon coolpix 4500 does an excellent job of purples, lavenders and blues shades so most colors are right on. Camera has issues since I got caught in rain with it in May so its days may be numbered. Hopefuly when replaced I will choose well.

Seedlings there are more than just purples

I see I have shown little in the way of toothy seedlings. I have shared some of those through emails so I forgot they aren't here. I'll put some up later I am tired now. And I now noticed I am posting photos without cropping out the extra background, so much wasted bytes.

Seedlings 2009

So here we have some new beauties from my breeding efforts in the Blue eyed, Lavender and purple efforts. Makes me wonder have advanced this effort would be if I wouldn't have becomes so focused on edge breeding for teeth, tendrils, and such.....
